Short Team Outreach

Yesterday a short term outreach group went to the outer countryside of St. Marc. The roads were terrible because of the recent rainfalls and it took two hours to arrive at the village of “Lebae”.

“Lebae” has an estimated population of 560 people. Last fall they were devastated by a flood for which they have not received any assistance to recover. The village has an active voodoo temple located in the center and nearly every home has voodoo objects hanging in the trees, roof tops, ceilings and even the traditional voodoo cross where sacrifices are burned and offered.

It was the last house; people had already been accepting Christ, but what a finish!

The family cried, “Please come to my house. I am ready to reject voodoo and destroy all of the things in my yard.” The team could not resist this offer even though it was time to begin their long trip through the mud back to our YWAM campus in the city before the rains hit again.

As they entered the yard they immediately noticed a cross, the wood chard from past sacrifices. The man of the house urged; “Get it out of here. I don’t want it anymore!” Daniel, 16 years old, ripped it out of the ground with the help of a few other team members. They quickly took to the river where they rebuked its curse, threw it in the water and watched it float away.

Back at the house the man opened up the doors to his house. “All of it; take it!” He showed them ceremonial clay bowls, bottles, cloth; they were all taken to the center of the yard where a crowd now had gathered. A young team member initiated a stomp and crush of the articles. Then they gathering it all and once more headed to the river and cast them out.

Truly this was a landmark change of action in this man and his family!
