67 prisoners baptized!

It was July 2000 when I was unexpectedly thrown in prison in St. Marc. The prison was in terrible condition. My cell already had 14 inmates before Lubens and I arrived and it measured only 14×16! After God did a miracle and we were released, we returned to the prison to bring transformation. Over the years we have done many improvements and assisted with various needs to the point that some even call the prison “Terry’s Second Home”!

In addition to all these practical improvements we always sought opportunity to share Christ with the prisoners. Over the years we have seen many saved. One prisoner, Jacob, was released and went through our training program (Discipleship Training School) and is currently on staff praying about going to Surname, South America, for a missions outreach!

December 9, 2011, 67 of the 302 prisoners were baptized in the St. Marc prison! You may ask how do you baptize prisoners in prison? We brought in a bath tub and filled it with water from the well we had drilled in 2001. For images stay tuned to our website www.ywamhaiti.org where we will be placing footage before Christmas.

Patrick Ovilmar, YWAM St. Marc staff, has been the point man for leading regular Sunday services and assisting in aid concerning the practical needs of the prisoner or prison. His faithfulness and those before him coupled with a team from Heritage Park Baptist Church, Houston, Texas, proved the effective work of preaching and discipling as Christ commanded in Matthew 28:19. God is faithful and truly gives hope to the hopeless!

Join us in thanking God for this great news! Patrick is now campaigning to see a Bible placed in the hands of every prisoner. A Bible cost $8 USD in St. Marc. If you would like to participate in this campaign simply reply to this email by telling us how many Bibles you would like to give and send your gift to the address below.

YWAM for September

65 pastors gathered to hear and discuss the role of the church in believing God to transform a community. The teaching focused on  the role of the church in capturing seven areas of society that influence the way a community thinks, Religion, Family, Government, Economics, Education, Media, Celebration. Every sector in these seven have a responsibility. To redeem these points of influence does not mean that Pastors have to stop pasturing and become something they have not been gifted in, such as economics. The challenge was to refocus or mobilize pastors to do what they have been called to do in nurturing their congregations and seeing their people rise up and be mobilized to be a vehicle or instrument to be used to bring transformation to St. Marc.

The pastors left with a sense of understanding that they never had before. They were so mobilized, many have already began to take action in mobilizing their people to go as God has gifted them. This Friday they have asked for a follow up meeting to discuss how they have been able to begin implementing the teaching. They are also renewing their unity for the transformation of St. Marc.

Report on River Bank Repair

We were not able to do any more work last week on the road and river bank repair in Lubin Block 4. However, the good news is that the river did not raise and the road is dry enough to make great progress beginning today. Please pray for continued dry weather and for finances to mobilize as much equipment as fast as possible.

Today seven couples are to be married. These were victims of the earthquake and had never consider marriage as a commitment but only a celebration. After receiving a new home and managed to have a stable environment they began to ask about marriage. After speaking with Pastors from the Christian Network of St. Marc they learned the meaning of marriage and they have asked to be married.

Two more people accept Christ in Lubin Block 4. One of the individuals was a witchdoctor! Over 1/3 of the village has converted to Christ. Please continue to pray for Pastor Bossuet and his wife Merline who is currently pregnant with their first child.

Two Hurricanes that were headed for Haiti have diverted their coarse avoiding Haiti which is still in a very fragile state. We recognize that God has been hearing and answering our prayers!

Our DTS students are ready for outreach! With 22 in St. Marc headed for Panama and 45 in Port-au-Prince headed for Benin, Africa, Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Brazil we are truly seeing Haiti rising up to become a blessing to the nations as they send forth their youth with the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ!

Monday, August 28-30, we will be hosting a Pastors Seminar. 65 Pastors and Lay leaders are registered to participate. Our theme is “The Role of the Church in Community Transformation”. The teaching is designed to provoke us to reflect, pray and strategizing concerning the situations of our city. Please pray for us all as we come together.

The river bank along Petite Rivière near Lubin Block 4 has broken. It has flooded the lower 5th section of St. Marc isolating four villages. In demonstration of the greatness of our God, we, Youth With A Mission, have been leading an attempt to motivate everyone to assist in this repair. The estimated cost to repair the road and breach is $25,000 USD. We have been able to motivate ODVA (Government Works) to utilize their equipment but they still need fuel for their trucks and equipment. Would you like to help? Let us know today if you are sending in a donation and how much so we can move even faster before any heavy rains come and make things worse.

God is moving and we are seeing His greatness!

It’s Really Happening

Closure. That’s a word we need to hear more often from relief organizations! Today, we are excited to announce closure to 2 of our tent communities. Thanks to all those who have provided Homes of Hope, we have nearly transferred all the families into permanent homes that they are content with. This is only a scratch on the surface, however, of all the amazing things God is doing in Haiti! Wayne Snow, leader of the DTS, was able to provide the following amazing news:

Wow, it’s been a long seven months, and while we have grown and been so blessed throughout, I can honestly say that I am very glad things are starting to calm down.
Starting in September we will only have one team on our campus at a time. This is a huge difference from 12 – 15 teams at a time [exaggeration].

God is good! As I sat in our staff meeting yesterday and was able to hear what God has done through His people I knew I couldn’t help but share.

In the last seven months, God has…

- Opened and maintained three tent cities for displaced earthquake victims. One inside the city, just down the road from our campus, and the other two just outside city limits.

- Registered the victims to make sure that the people with the most need are assisted.

- Helped to better YWAM Haiti’s relationship with some government officials, earned their respect, and in turn, their favor.

- Sent teams and individuals to come along side our long term staff in order to move forward in the vision He prepared in advance for us.

- Provided financially for these visions, despite the economic difficulties of this year.

But that was only the beginning…

- This weekend, two of the tent cities will be closed, and all the families from those locations will be in permanent housing, built by our staff and teams from around the world.

- He provided teams and individuals to teach and disciple on how to live in community.

- We are in the process of acquiring the land to build up this area. Add a market, school, church, community center, building the economy and breaking the dependency/victim mentality.

- We have received 98 containers (pre-earthquake we processed 2 per year) through our campus (some for other ministries) all with relief supplies given directly to the people.

- There are now God breathed, long term plans set for the future.

- In addition, He opened and is well maintaining the brand new base in Port Au Prince.

All of these things are what has happened in relation to the earthquake and the relief involved. God has also been moving in the areas of ministry personal to our campus.

- Philipson, head of the prison ministry, said yesterday that one of the higher ups in the chain of command has noticed the biggest transformation and change in the prison we regularly visit. He was comparing it to all the prisons in our area.

- The local pastor’s network has agreed to partner with us to help the ladies in our brothel ministry who want to get out, and the first lady moved into a pastor’s home just yesterday.

- The DTS (Discipleship Training School) is growing and thriving under the discipleship of our very inadequate staff, who by the grace of God, are leading extraordinarily.

- The new Liberty Academy school building is nearly finished, and there are almost enough teachers for next school year.

What a huge God we serve! There is so much more to come. His faithfulness is overwhelming and His provision leaves those who don’t understand or acknowledge Him, completely dumbfounded.
As we step into this new phase of our life called parenthood, I cling to this faithfulness and know full well His provision.

None of this could have been accomplished without the help of those who came down to serve, or fund these projects. YWAM Haiti thanks you for all you have done, and what you might be planning to do, in the future!!  Beni Swa L’Eternal!
